Corn Plant
Dracaena fragrans
The Dracaena fragrans, commonly known as the Corn Plant, is a popular indoor foliage plant characterized by its thick woody stems and long, arching leaves that resemble those of maize. Originating from tropical Africa, it is highly valued for its architectural beauty and its ability to thrive in a variety of indoor lighting conditions while effectively purifying the air.

Care Guide
Light Requirements
Place your Corn Plant in a spot with bright, indirect sunlight. While it can tolerate lower light levels, the growth will slow significantly and the leaves may lose their vibrant variegation. Avoid direct afternoon sun as it will scorch the leaves.
Watering and Soil
Allow the top 50-75% of the soil to dry out before watering again. These plants are sensitive to fluoride and salts found in tap water, which often cause brown tips on the leaves. Use filtered, distilled, or rainwater when possible. Ensure the pot has excellent drainage to prevent root rot.
Temperature and Humidity
Maintain a temperature between 60°F and 75°F (15°C to 24°C). Corn plants enjoy moderate humidity; if your home is dry, especially in winter, mist the leaves occasionally or use a pebble tray. Keep away from cold drafts and heating vents.
Common Issues
Drooping or yellowing leaves usually indicate overwatering. Brown leaf tips are typically a result of low humidity or chemical sensitivity to tap water. Periodically wipe the leaves with a damp cloth to remove dust and prevent pests like spider mites.
