Dragon Tree
Dracaena marginata
The Dracaena marginata is a striking architectural plant featuring slender, sword-shaped leaves with distinct red-purple edges atop woody stems. Native to Madagascar, this hardy indoor plant is prized for its ability to tolerate a range of indoor conditions and its air-purifying qualities. As it matures, it often develops a tree-like form with interesting, twisted trunks, making it a dramatic focal point for modern interiors.

Care Guide
Dracaena marginata Care Guide
1. Lighting
Place your Dragon Tree in bright, indirect light. While it can tolerate lower light levels, its growth will slow significantly and the leaves may lose their vibrant coloring. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the narrow leaves.
2. Watering
Allow the top 50-75% of the soil to dry out completely before watering. Overwatering is the most common cause of root rot. When watering, saturate the soil until water drains out the bottom, then discard any excess in the saucer.
3. Soil and Potting
Use a well-draining potting mix, ideally one with perlite or pumice to ensure aeration. Repot every 2-3 years or when roots become cramped.
4. Humidity and Temperature
Dragon Trees prefer temperatures between 65°F and 80°F (18°C - 27°C). They enjoy moderate humidity; if the air is very dry, you may notice brown tips on the leaves. Occasional misting or a pebble tray can help.
5. Maintenance
Wipe leaves with a damp cloth periodically to remove dust and maintain the plant's ability to photosynthesize. Prune the top of the stem if the plant becomes too tall; this will encourage branching.
6. Seasonal Tips
In winter, reduce watering significantly as the plant enters a dormant phase. Keep it away from cold drafts and heating vents.
