Manjula Pothos

Epipremnum aureum 'Manjula'

The Manjula Pothos is a patented cultivar developed by the University of Florida, cherished for its wide, heart-shaped leaves with distinctively wavy margins. Its foliage is a living work of art, featuring a chaotic and beautiful blend of cream, silver, mint, and emerald green. Unlike other pothos varieties, its variegation is highly stable but requires specific lighting to maintain its brilliance, making it a favorite among collectors seeking a more textured, compact vining plant.

Lighting

To maintain the striking white and cream variegation, provide bright, indirect light. Avoid direct afternoon sun, which can scorch the delicate white patches. If the plant produces primarily green leaves, it is likely not receiving enough light.

Watering

Allow the top 2-3 inches of soil to dry out completely before watering. Manjula is more susceptible to root rot than the Golden Pothos, so ensure the pot has excellent drainage. If the leaves start to droop slightly, it is often a sign the plant is thirsty.

Soil & Potting

Use a chunky, well-draining potting mix. A blend of high-quality indoor soil, perlite, and orchid bark is ideal for keeping the roots aerated and preventing moisture buildup.

Seasonal Maintenance

  • Spring/Summer: Fertilize monthly and keep the soil consistently moist but never soggy.
  • Fall/Winter: Growth will slow significantly. Reduce watering frequency and stop fertilizing until the return of warmer weather.

Troubleshooting

  • Yellow Leaves: Typically a sign of overwatering or poor drainage.
  • Brown Tips: Indicates low humidity or the presence of salts/minerals in tap water; try using filtered water or misting the area.
  • Small Leaves: Usually caused by a lack of light or the need for a climbing support like a moss pole.
