Silver Lady Scindapsus

Scindapsus pictus 'Silver Lady'

The 'Silver Lady' is a stunning cultivar of the Satin Pothos, celebrated for its lanceolate, matte-green leaves heavily splashed with shimmering silver variegation. This trailing epiphyte is distinguished by its thinner, more pointed leaves compared to the 'Exotica' variety, offering a delicate and refined metallic aesthetic that sparkles under bright light. It is a slow-to-moderate grower that brings a sophisticated, celestial feel to any indoor space.

Pet Warning

Like most Scindapsus, the Silver Lady contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals. If ingested, it can cause significant oral irritation, swelling of the mouth, tongue, and throat, and digestive upset in cats, dogs, and humans.

Care Guide

Lighting

To preserve the intense silver variegation, place your Silver Lady in bright, indirect light. It can tolerate lower light, but the variegation may fade, and the leaves will grow smaller. Avoid direct sunlight, which can cause the delicate foliage to crisp and burn.

Watering

Allow the top 50% of the potting medium to dry out before watering. A key indicator of thirst in Scindapsus is leaf curling; the plant will visually signal when it needs moisture. When watering, saturate the soil thoroughly until water drains from the bottom, then discard excess water to prevent root rot.

Soil and Potting

Use a well-aerated, chunky aroid mix. A blend of potting soil, perlite, and orchid bark is ideal to ensure oxygen reaches the roots. This plant prefers being slightly root-bound and typically only needs repotting every 2 years.

Temperature and Humidity

Keep the plant in temperatures between 65°F and 85°F (18°C - 29°C). While it handles average home humidity, it will thrive and produce larger leaves if humidity is maintained above 50%.

Common Issues

Yellowing leaves are usually a sign of overwatering. If the silver patches turn brown or crispy, the humidity may be too low or it may be receiving too much direct sun.
